English Transliteration :

Allahumma salli ala Muhammadiw wa ala aali Muhammadin kama sall’aita ala Ibrahima wa ala aali Ibrahima inna’ka hamidum majeed.  Allahumma barik ala Muhammadiw wa ala aali Muhammadin kama barakta ala Ibrahima wa ala aali Ibrahima inna’ka hamidum majeed.

Darood Sharif in English:

“O Allah, send Your favor upon Muhammadﷺ and the family of Muhammadﷺ, as You sent favor upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. You are indeed praiseworthy, glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammadﷺ and the family of Muhammadﷺ, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. You are indeed praiseworthy, glorious.”

Understanding the Shortened Version of Darood Sharif

The shortest darood sharif we generally use is: ” Sall’allahu Alaihi Wa Aalihi Wa Salam”. (صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآله  وَسَلَّمَ) Yet some other short durood are:

صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ مُحَمَّدٍ

Transliteration: Sallal laho Ala-Nabi Muhammadﷺ.

اللَّهُمَّ صل عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

Transliteration :Allahumma Sallay Ala Muhammad ew wa-ala Ale Muhammadﷺ.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ، وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

1. Surah Al-Ahzab (33:56) – The Core Verse

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلَـٰٓئِكَتَهُۥ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِىِّ ۚ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ صَلُّوا۟ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا۟ تَسْلِيمًا

Translation (Sahih International):
Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask [ Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [ Allah to grant him] peace.

2. Surah Al-Fatiha (48:29) – Mention of the Prophet’s status

مُّحَمَّدٌۭ رَّسُولُ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ أَشِدَّآءُ عَلَى ٱلْكُفَّارِ رُحَمَآءُ بَيْنَهُمْ

Translation (Sahih International):
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves…

3. Surah Al-Ahzab (33:43) – Blessings and Mercy from Allah

هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُصَلِّى عَلَيْكُمْ وَمَلَـٰٓئِكَتُهُۥ لِيُخْرِجَكُم مِّنَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ ۚ

Translation (Sahih International):
It is He who confers blessing upon you, and His angels [ask Him to do so] that He may bring you out from darknesses into the light…

4. Surah Tawbah (9:103) – Blessings purify

خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ صَدَقَةًۭ تُطَهِّرُهُمْ وَتُزَكِّيهِم بِهَا وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ

Translation (Sahih International):
Take [O Muhammad] from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [Allah’s blessings] upon them. Indeed, your invocations are reassurance for them.

🌟 1. Increases Rewards & Removes Sins

Hadith:

“Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send blessings upon him ten times and will erase ten sins and raise him ten degrees in status.”
[Sunan al-Nasa’i 1297, Sahih]

Virtue: One Darood = 10 blessings + 10 sins erased + 10 ranks elevated.


🌟 2. Closeness to the Prophet ﷺ

Hadith:

“The closest of people to me on the Day of Judgment will be those who sent the most blessings upon me.”
[Jami` at-Tirmidhi 484, Hasan]

Hazrat Abu Huraira رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ narrated that Hazrat Muhammadﷺ said: Those who sit in gatherings but don’t speak of Allah nor recite durood on Prophet Muhammadﷺ will face remorse—Allah wills either to punish or forgive them (Sunan-Tirmidhi, book Al-Dawat An Prophet Muhammadﷺ, Hadith No: 3391).
